Bear Creek Park is definitely a one of a kind place to skateboard. (Click Left for Wallpaper) There are obstacles there that you will never find anywhere else. That is personally why I like to go there and skate sometimes. I always save Bear Creek for the last contest, because of how strange a park it is. Also it was Surrey’s first “street park”.
The contest went very well, not so many people skating , but lots of people everywhere. Generation Y was there filming and interviewing kids about the contest and there opinions of me. The show will be aired Tuesday, September 18th – 6:00 pm, channel 4. Local Pacific time.
The skating was really cool at this contest. Bear Creek always brings out the creative sides of these young competitors. I saw some crazy tricks from lots of people, but my favorite of the day had to be Nick Logan, barely 7 years old, climbed up on top of the pyramid and did the most stretched out handstand I’ve ever seen and landed it perfect. I was laughing so hard that tears came to my eyes, and I had to take a break from talking. It was one of those situations where you had to be there.
Anyway, the day went smooth, “Haven” played between the beginners and intermediates, tons of tricks went down, no one got hurt, kids got on TV, and we handed over all the funds raised for the Surrey Food Bank – $565.00 and over 550 lbs of food. To me this total was very comforting, and made me feel like this year was by far the most successful. To the Executive Director of the Food Bank, Marilyn, this total was unbelievable. She, and the people that depend on the Food Bank, are all very thankful.
This was the 4th year for Hippie Mike’s Tour de Surrey. It was definitely the biggest. I hope to see all the same faces next year, with lots of new ones. Thanks to everyone who participated in any way and a huge thanks go out to all of my Sponsors for these events.
