It was another eventful day. My Softball team, The Amix Scrappers, which I Coach and play on was in the Season Finale Playoff Tournament. We played Friday night at 6:20pm and then had to back to play more at 8:00 in the morning. So Saturday morning I was at the Ball Park at 7:30. We played, we lost, and I came out to host the contest leaving the rest of the team behind for another game later. Nick Logan Handplant Hi-Jump South Surrey -Tour De Surrey ContestIt was a nice, cool day down South Surrey. The sun was hiding for the most part and there were lots of kids out. The beginner contest was huge like always, and the skating all around was solid all day from everybody. Andrew Anderson took Best Trick out of the Bowl Launch with a Body Varial to Switch Airwalk, taking home a fat set of Spitfire wheels. Then he went on to win the whole thing in the Sponsored division. It was the first time Andrew finally pulled it off at his home park. I believe Andrew is only 12 years old, but he loves skating transitions, and the boy can fly.
Desmond Hoostie showed up for the first time ever to one of my competitions. This guy is one awesome skater, super tech and fearless. Although after winning the Bonsor Contest last weekend, he couldn't pull through this time. After his runs, Desmond layed out the sickest Blunt 3 flip out on one of the quarter pipes - Someone's been watching a little too much Daewon... What was ironic though was that Desmond is related to a bunch of guys on my Softball Team that was still at the park playing hard.
The Advanced category was pretty easy to judge. 2 park locals showed up that didn't even know the contest was happenning. Lane Mullard, with his stylin' early grab manouvers in the bowl, and Matthew with his lazy-no effort landings ripped the park huge, but they were no match for the incredible Jordan Zazula. Langley takes the prize.
Winners of Advanced and Sponsored South Surrey 2008 Intermediate was pretty sick. This kid Dominic had an amazing flawless first run, and I believe only missed 1 trick in his second run, maybe 2. Adam Tagg went real fast in the Bowl, even layed out a solid bs 360 melon for us in his run. Dudes got talent, but took 4th place to Julian Lansigan and Park local Gavin Goodall. But these kids skated really good and it was tough to decide who was 2nd and 3rd. The judges chose Gavin - that's 2 for White Rock, 1 for Langley.
Intermediates and girls South surrey 2008 It comes down to Beginner, or should I say Beginners - 25 of them. Beginner is always the toughest part of the day. There are so many competitors to watch, and sometimes no one lands anything for a while. But the kids were ripping it this day. I love watching Nick Logan skate. This kid is out of control. He goes for it. Nick Logan just makes up his own tricks and puts 'em down. My favorite trick of the day was Nick's final trick where he threw a Handplant Hi-Jump over the coping that crosses the channel on the mini quarterpipes. For a 7 year old, it was awesome. Everyone tried their hardest in Beginner, Dakota tried some insane tricks, Keinan and JR showed off some new tricks they learned in my Skate Camp, and everybody went for it. William Letourneau came out to make up for missin his local park contest at Cloverdale and took home 2nd place. Park Local Mike Groves rode the whole park with confidence and took it home for White Rock...3-1 Langley, Surrey wins.
JR Keinan & Nick South Surrey 2008 Tour De Surrey
Speaking of winning, the Amix Scrappers showed up on Sunday for some more Softball, with their Coach back and took 3rd place. Not too bad for a team that never won a game the first 2 years.
