The epic hills of Colorado are virtually unknown to anyone but the locals, but that all changed in May. Fifty highly experienced racers from all over North America descended on Lookout Mountain in Golden for the first annual Buffalo Bill Downhill. The riders were happily shocked at the dramatic, technical course. I was totally blown away by the smiling faces after each run. Many approached me, gave me a big hug and simply said, “Thank you!” Practice day was superb. After a fairly late start, we still got in six runs. Everyone was killing the course, and I was very impressed at the level of talent on the hill. Anyone who missed our “Wheel of Death” qualifier missed one the coolest things I’ve seen at a race. Heats were selected randomly, with prizes and some shenanigans thrown in. I tried my best to be a good host, and a select crew got a very nice guided tour of some other amazing hills in the area. We look forward to seeing everyone here again next year for Buffalo Bill 2010!
